It's quite obvious he's holding a mirror behind that book and he's actually checking her out. In fact, by tracing his line of sight and understanding that the angle of reflection is equal and opposite to the angle of incidence, it's quite obvious exactly what he's looking at.
I haven't seen an SEG like that since Adam met Eve.
Are you sure that's a woman in the background? It's fuzzy enough that it could be a drag queen.
