Why you don't get published.
EE, apparently you had enough inspiration for all of us. Now I don't feel so bad, because obviously mine wouldn't have been funny in comparison.
When only three people do the exercise, one begins to wonder if it's worth the trouble.
Maybe the problem was the same reason the captions weren't good enough? Although you certainly had no trouble with ideas, EE.
I love doing your exercises - I just took this week off...
I'm working on whipping my WIP - into shape, that is.Loved these!EE, Please don't give up on us, we'll bounce back and participate again.
EE-Don't underestimate the power of a good chocolate malt. Works for me.
Unfortunately, if I can't write anything funny, it's better not to write anything at all.But I have been slacking, I'll admit, and promise to be back in form next week. Unless I'm not. In which case, I'll just submit something that's not funny.
Maybe people were trying to hard for a killer idea. I looked at all three pictures and said to myself, which one would fit into my WIP and it was #1. I needed a confrontation, so I wrote a confrontation. It probably won't survive the editing process but then, half of my writing doesn't survive editing. Write first, edit later.
By the way, if it is any consolation, the parking garage was empty, the city was pretty much empty, the only people downtown were Symphony and Theater goers... The highways were nearly empty driving home. And yesterday, the mall wasn't crowded. Something happened this weekend. I'm suspecting Alien Abduction without the benefit of lube.
I'll do one next week. I promise.I need a topic, however. I'm too drilled down in what I'm working on right now to come up with one on my own. Pathetic, and yet, true. Also, now that I heard that female voice, I actually have to skate around my previously favorite topic. And that's some hard skating.
I was gonna do one but a trip to the ER happened instead.I liked the double take one with EE and EE's evil twin.
Actually. there've been women's voices on several films, and as it's reaching the point where most of the new beginnings that would make decent films require one or more female voices, and as I don't want to keep imposing on the women in the local asylum, feel free to volunteer.
I just finished my second manuscript. I was out shopping for a bigger trunk, else I would've done this. Will do next week's.....
Chris, you've gotten enough rejects that you can afford a trunk? I'm still using a cardboard box.--Bill H.
Sorry, EE. I've been travelling North to South and South to North for so long that I can't remember where I am half the time. Not to mention family issues, the sick cat, and the sick self. Or that "World Enough and Time" book I'm still failing to read.
Nowadays a book wouldn't open with so much backstory, but having finished it yesterday, I must say, what an amazing character study, and with an unexpectedly intricate plot. It's a long book; get started soon, chatters.
Is it misogynist all the way through tho, EE?
A topic we can chat about if you think so after you're finished.
Sorry I've been failing to communicate, here too! Perhaps I'm taking this waaay more seriously than I used to. I've started 3 of the last four and either didn't think they were funny enuf or didn't finish. Plus I was out-of-sorts-big-time all day Sat. I'll do better, I swear, this weekend!Meri
Ah, misogyny. Interesting to think about in the context of history.(Get it. His-tory? Remember all that her-story stuff?)Anyway...one of the many things I admired about Robert Penn Warren's telling of All the King's Men when I read it was the way he's able to wind the reader through mindsets. And he certainly doesn't bash you over the head with his point. It takes a while. I like that. And I think he's done it again - at least it seems so to me - I'm maybe 70% finished.
I understand the idea of characters and cultures being misogynist, but this comes directly from the author, of which I'm less forgiving. And I'm still on page 37.
Really? I need to reread the beginning.
