Why you don't get published.
What is it that you are looking for exactly? As a newbie, i'm finding it hard to find the FAQ entry that describes what these things are, if it even exists. Help me out?
It should be the very top of the FAQ page (which is on a different blog you can link to from the sidebar here). The main items that get submitted are query letters--the same one you're planning to send to an agent or editor--and the opening 150 - 200 words of your novel or story. These eventually get posted as "Face-Lifts" and "New Beginnings." Evil Editor and his Evil Minions (of which you are now one) will provide feedback designed to help you and/or make you laugh.
Sorry for being a dolt, but where do I find the email address for query submissions?
Ahhh, found it: firstname.lastname@example.org
You probably found it in #2 of the FAQ. It's also in my profile (top left of this blog).Just about anything may also be sent as a comment.
I could see what I've got....
So, that means by submitting I become both an Evil Minion and fodder?

I think you get your minion wings (or horns, as it were) by critiquing others' submissions. Yes?
I may have to make something up...

Yes, anon. You'll be both a minion and fodder.Join now. You won't regret it, unless you really hate enjoying yourself and learning despite yourself. I'm just saying.
What's not to like? I'm in.
If I'm not mistaken, sending Evil a heartfelt post-able bona fide Question will earn one a minor minion merit badge which can be displayed proudly on either horns or wings.
Wow, EE, lots of new stuff! Since I make it a goal to do a GTP or continuation for almost everything, I'm running myself ragged here! I don't have nearly enough homework to do....
Technically: If you can read this, you are an Evil Minion.
Thanks for the hand-holding there. I feel a bit foolish as it was at the top :P Oh well. I've just sent off my query, and will send my opening later. My opening is currently in Authoress' Secret Agent contest going live today (squee!). I feel so lucky to have the chance to get feedback from editors and agents!
EE - It's been so long since I sent in a beginning that I forgot to put my name at the bottom of it. Not meaning to be anonymous.
First of all, incredible blog...one of the most ambitious I have seen on the web. I looked at it when I saw you on the fundraiser organized by Brenda Novak. Two questions: 1) can I submit a beginning for an unfinished short story 2) do you accept it from an anonymous poster or do I need to provide my name? thanks very much,RC
Yes, your opening is acceptable, and anonymous is fine (though you might also consider making up a name to use so you don't get confused with other anons when commenting).
Thanks I will submit and put a screen name.
