"I understand that you're a homicide detective from Los Angeles."
"That's right." Zack MArtinez sighed. "I just wanted a nice, quiet vacation in Scotland with my family. My cousin Santiago is a wrangler for the BBC."
"I see." MacIlvane smiled grimly. "As you now know, we've a series of murders on Coldharbour Lane."
"Murders aren't exactly rare on a waterfront," said Zack.
"Quite right. However, all the victims were teachers, and the way they were killed suggests vampires."
"There must be some mistake. I was told you had a prominent American editor under arrest for the killings."
"We did, we did. But when three more turned up last night, we knew we had the wrong man." MacIlvane sighed. "I knew American editors had a predilection for sucking the life from their victims, but even I thought this was extreme."
Zack nodded. They might call the man Evil, but he hadn't been out on a killing spree--yet.
