“Evil Ed’s called for a meeting of the minions tonight, but I’m not sure if I want to go,” I said to Steve as we tossed our garbage into the dumpster.
Oh, because it’s in Flushing. You know how I hate crossing the East River.”
“You should go. Queens is virtually tourist-free. And I’m on the graveyard shift at the lab again tonight, so I won’t be around to keep you company. Besides, you’ll enjoy it. Remember how much fun you guys had at that brothel the last time?” Steve chuckled, nodding at a passing neighbor.
“Well, it was pretty funny listening to Dave interview the girls about how they lost their virginity. But the one before that was horrible.”
“Was that the time you were bitten by that creature?”
“Evil’s pet Weredingo, I said, wincing at the memory. “And all your scientist friends had a field day analyzing my blood for infectious diseases.”
“Hey, you survived,” he said, tenderly kissing my nose, our breaths forming tiny clouds in the cold air. “So, what’s the agenda for this evening?”
“I’m not really sure. Something about a biker bar and pickled eggs. I think it’s a surprise party for Robin.”
